Churches & Chapels

Tourism Religious

Pissouri is home to various churches and chapels that religious travellers can visit. In addition, because Pissouri is in tune with nature, its churches and chapels are more magnificent.

Ayios Mavrikios

The modern church of Agios Maurikios was constructed at the expense of Mr. Pericles Stasis’s family, to the east of the plain of Linidia and at the foot of the hill of Agios Maurikios, on the foundations of an older church. In 2001, the church enlarged, was maintained, and was gated at the expense of the Pissouri community. Saint Maurikios is known as the wart doctor.

Prophitis Elias Chapel

The chapel of Profitis Ilias is situated on the pine-covered slope of Agios Ilias, 2 kilometres west of Pissouri. It was constructed in 1960 on a sculpted rock at Mr. Agamemnon Fouta’s expense. In 2002, the chapel was refurbished.

Agios Spyridonas Chapel

The chapel of Agios Spyridon is situated in a cave at Ampelochori, close to Pissouri Bay. Vasso and Giannakis Pelekanou constructed the chapel in 1999 in commemoration of their parents, who were from the occupied village of Assia.

Agios Georgios Church

The modest church of Agios Georgios sits near Kamaroudi, on the public road leading to the village of Alectora, 3 kilometres from Pissouri. It was constructed in 1958 at Mr. Aristos A. Liasidis’ expense.

Panagia Akonopetra Chapel

The small church dedicated to the Panagia Akonopetra Church was built on the same hill in Akonopetra, west of the amphitheatre. The land is owned by the Apostolos Andreas church, and the expenditures were paid by contributions from the residents of Pissouri.

Agia Marina, Agia Eirini Xrysovalanto & Agios Panteleimonas Chapel

The Agia Marina, Agia Eirini Xrysovalanto & Agios Panteleimonas Chapel is popular with both tourists and residents.

All Saints

On the westernmost tip of the province of Limassol sits a chapel that could have easily been a component of a world-renowned art collection.

Apostolos Andreas Church

In 1883, the church of Apostolos Andreas was constructed via the voluntary labour of the community’s residents over the course of twelve (12) years. It served as a cemetery until 1912, when it was replaced by the current structure. The church was constructed in the Gothic style in 1890 and is renowned for its iconostasis made of carved wood.

Agios Alexandros Church

The modest church of Agios Alexandros was constructed in 1990 at the expense of Mrs. Galatas G. Kyriazi on land donated by Mr. Leonidas Liasidis Kotzias.
